pile of craft is pile of done.  there is much to say.  firstly, i need to thank some folks.  the other people who i have the pleasure of being in this crafty family with are more awesome than any other group of people i’ve ever worked with- they are creative, hard working, inspiring people.  they are not complainers.  they are caring and compassionate, and i love them.  thanks, guys, for being you, for spelling me all day at my info booth, for sharing your good vibe with me.

thanks to the vendors, who waited patiently for their promised burritos, raved about everything and have made my exhaustion feel totally worthwhile.

thanks to the people who run the space, red emma’s bookstore, for being cool, making great food, and making this beautiful space available and accessible financially to a small group.

thanks to all the locals and non-locals (there was a lady from New Orleans!) who came out and supported this show.  i’m estimating there were at least 2000 of you.  you not only showed your great appreciation for indie artists, you also made those of us who live here proud to be baltimoreans.

also, thanks to my sister, who drove an hour and a half to come to the show, and then put my kids to bed so that i could go to the after party.  big love.

whew.  you know, when something that starts in your head becomes a real live thing, and is happening, and thriving, right before your eyes, it’s tough to explain that level of elation.   it’s sort of like waking up from a dream, i think.  i can’t wait for the next one.

ah, baltimore.  you try so hard, and yet, somehow, inexplicably, you fall short of success.

today the mafia participated in a new event put on by the baltimore office of promotion and the arts, called artist’s marketplace on the water, which is held each sunday in june (and the first in july) at this park right in between the science center and the visitors center in the inner harbor OF DOOM.  kidding, it’s just a plain old harbor.  well, there was doom today, but normally, it’s a perfectly fine harbor.  it does smell of fish, but what harbor doesn’t, i ask you?  ok, moving on.

we quickly realized why this prime land hasn’t been turned into starbucks or the ever popular tourist mecca, HOOTERS.  it’s a bog, people.  a soggy, water-logged, never-meant-to-be-walked-on B-O-G.  and yet, in spite of boggy adversity, we prevailed.  they set us up around the bog edges, and we bravely put out our handcrafted items to be adored by the general population of tourists/oriole game leavers.

i was in the good company of some sweaty (but not stinky!) mafioso:

it was a tad windy,

and, we sold one t-shirt in the entire 8 hour day.  but, i can’t tell you how much joy it brought me to have people walk into the booth, pick up something i made, and talk to their companion about how nice it was.  i’m proud to say i’m done with my first show.  here’s to many more… but actually selling things at them…

that’s rachel’s bake sale designs in front, and some of my felted balls and floss sketches in the back.  woo-HOO!

hey, you!  don’t forget the only place to be this saturday is theeeeeeee…………..

PILE OF CRAFT!  click the link in the sidebar for directions, vendor lists, and all the details.  i’ll be at the info booth for some of the day, so please do stop in and say hello.  we are all very excited about this- watch for us on the fox 45 morning news tuesday morning at 6:10, 7:10, and 8:10 am!

seeing the light at the end of the tunnel…

what a nice day we’re having over here.  the weather is perfect, which says a lot since it’s june in baltimore (stay away, humidity!).  i’ve gotten a bunch done already today, although i’ve had to lay off knitting and crocheting a bit to give my left wrist a break.  i’m planning to do more floss drawings today.  i still need to finish some more flower pins for the yarn shop, as this weekend is honfest and we’re expecting lots of traffic.  i might have a yard sale, too, if i can swing it.  if you’re local, send me an email for my address.

last night i had a lovely time with fluffy, who gave me this helpful note:

i almost forgot to call him, b, and we don’t want to make him angry.  or leave him dateless for lunch.  it just wouldn’t be right.

sage helped make ciabatta pizzas for lunch, counting exactly three pepperonis per slice.  then she dumped wayyyy too much romano on, and scoffed when i suggested that maybe we’d want to avoid using the entire ($9) container on one meal.

whoa, nelly.

the finished meal.

here’s a helpful hint for any parent of a toddler who isn’t as into vegetables as he is into chocolate covered pretzels: buy the dora christmas dvd, and watch the last episode, mimo gets lost, wherein mimo, the class hampster, runs away from school, and dora and boots lure him out of a pyramid full of spiders with his favorite snack, a carrot (it sounds very indiana jones, doesn’t it?  don’t get your hopes up).  watch the episode at least 45-65 times in one week.  next, start offering your child “mimo carrots” at meals.  soon he will be eating mimo carrots with abandon.  abandon, people.  then you can move on to mimo celery, mimo red peppers, and if you’re really nuts, mimo spinach.

 see?

there’s a mimo carrot in that mouth, i promise you.

and thus ends our lunchtime programming for today.
